How Time Management Works in Rock 2 The Top
A music career life sim where every hour counts.
You've got £30 left, the rent is approaching, your guitar needs repairing, and you've got a gig tomorrow.
Do you work an extra shift to earn some money? Spend the day practising to improve your chances on stage? Or get some desperately needed sleep?
In Rock 2 The Top, you can't do everything. There are only 24 hours in a day.
That's one of the fundamental ideas behind our free browser-based music career simulation game: every hour matters.
The Reality of the 24-Hour Calendar
Your musician's life revolves around a 24-hour daily calendar.
Most meaningful activities take time. Working, practising, songwriting, music lessons, rehearsals, busking and sleeping all compete for space in your schedule.
You decide how to use those hours, but every choice has an opportunity cost.
- Work or practise? Taking an extra shift might pay the rent, but it means less time developing your musical abilities.
- Busk or write songs? Playing on the streets can bring in money and exposure, while songwriting helps you build your own catalogue of music.
- Practise or sleep? Another few hours with your instrument might improve your skills, but performing while exhausted could ruin tomorrow's gig.
There's no perfect daily routine. Your priorities will change as your career develops.
Time, Energy and Money: The Three-Way Balancing Act

Time isn't the only resource you need to manage.
Energy: Your musician gets tired. Working, practising, rehearsing and performing consume Energy, while sleeping and resting help restore it. Turning up to a performance exhausted can seriously affect the result.
Health: Illness, injury and your general physical condition can interfere with your plans. Sometimes recovery has to take priority over your musical ambitions.
Money: Music lessons, instruments, equipment repairs and accommodation all cost money. Early in your career, ordinary paid work may be essential to support your musical ambitions.
These systems interact. Spending more time working might solve an immediate financial problem, but leave you with less Energy and fewer hours to develop your music career.
Why Your Home Matters
Your living situation is another important part of the simulation.
You begin at the bottom, without the comforts and security that established musicians might take for granted.
As you earn money, you can work towards better accommodation, but rent and other housing costs create their own financial pressures.
Housing affects your circumstances and your ability to recover from a demanding day. A more secure, comfortable place to live can make it easier to maintain a productive routine.
Improving your living situation is therefore more than a cosmetic upgrade. It's another part of building a sustainable music career.
From Survival to Stardom

Early in the game, your biggest challenge might simply be finding enough money to survive while learning an instrument.
Later, your calendar starts filling with rehearsals, gigs, songwriting sessions and other musical commitments.
The challenge changes, but the underlying question remains the same:
What's the best use of your next hour?
Rock 2 The Top isn't designed around clicking a button and instantly becoming famous. We want your career to feel earned, with progress coming from the decisions you make along the way.
Some musicians will focus on technical ability. Others will chase live performances, build bands or concentrate on writing original music.
There isn't one prescribed route to success.
