The long game

From a dingy bedsit to a sold-out stadium.

The aim is not simply to click a button and become famous. Your musician has only 24 hours in a day. Work pays the bills but consumes time and Energy. Better housing helps you recover and practise. Lessons cost money. Musical ability takes time to develop. Songs, gigs, recording, relationships, band commitments and nights out in the local music scene already compete for those same resources. Releases, demos, charts, fans, the Singles Chart and audience growth add another layer; albums, touring and a wider simulated music industry will expand it further.

You might become a virtuoso nobody, a chart star with modest musical ability, a successful songwriter, a working session musician, a band leader — or somehow make it all the way to music legend.
